Terms of Service
Effective May 5, 2026.
These Terms govern your use of Papercut (the “Service”), provided through the Papercut iOS app and the Papercut SMS interface. References to “we” or “us” mean the operator of the Service. By using the Service you agree to these Terms.
What the Service does
You photograph pieces of physical mail you wish to stop receiving. We use AI to identify the senders. With your confirmation, we send each identified sender an email asking them to remove your name and mailing address from their postal mailing lists. We track responses and report progress back to you.
What the Service does not do
- We do not guarantee that any sender will honor your removal request. Most legitimate senders do, but they are not legally required to in every case, and some may continue to send mail despite our request.
- Some senders do not accept email opt-outs at all and require a phone call, web form, or postal letter from you. When we discover this, we surface the alternative path back to you; we cannot complete those steps for you.
- The Service does not unsubscribe you from email (electronic) marketing lists or telemarketing calls. It is for physical paper mail only.
- The Service does not stop USPS Informed Delivery, change-of-address forwarding, or any USPS-operated mail. You can manage those at usps.com.
- We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any sender we contact on your behalf.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and a resident of the United States to use the Service. By using the Service you confirm both.
Your account
You are responsible for the accuracy of the legal name and mailing address you provide. We send the exact name and address you supply to senders. If the name or address does not match what is on the mail you photograph, the request will likely be ignored or sent to the wrong record. Only photograph and submit mail addressed to you, at your address. Do not photograph mail addressed to others without their permission.
Acceptable use
- Do not submit photos of other people’s mail.
- Do not submit photos that are not physical mail (e.g. screenshots, ID documents, anything not for the Service’s purpose). We reserve the right to reject or terminate accounts that misuse the Service.
- Do not attempt to abuse, reverse-engineer, or interfere with the Service’s operation.
- Do not use the Service for any unlawful purpose, including impersonating someone else to issue unsubscribe requests on their behalf without permission.
Free tier and subscription
The Service is offered with a free tier (a limited number of unsubscribe requests per account, currently five) and a paid subscription that removes the limit. Subscription pricing is shown in the app prior to purchase.
Subscriptions are sold through the App Store. Payment is charged to your Apple ID, the subscription auto-renews unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and you can manage and cancel in your Apple ID Settings. App Store subscription terms govern refunds and renewals.
Sender emails sent on your behalf
When you confirm a sender for unsubscribe, you authorize us to send a single email to that sender’s opt-out contact address, using a Papercut-owned email address as the “from” address, containing your name and mailing address as the identifying information. The email is solicited by you, factual, and contains no marketing content. You will see the message body the system uses; we do not send anything outside that pattern without your prior confirmation.
Service availability
We provide the Service “as is” and “as available.” We may experience downtime, errors, or interruptions, and we may modify or discontinue features at any time. We are not liable for any failure to send a particular unsubscribe request, for any sender’s response or non-response, or for any continued junk mail you receive.
Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, that any sender will honor a request, or that any specific reduction in your physical mail will result from using the Service.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you have paid us for the Service in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred US dollars. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages.
Termination
You can terminate your account at any time using “Delete account” in the app, or by emailing [email protected]. We may terminate or suspend accounts that violate these Terms or that misuse the Service. On termination, we delete your account data as described in the Privacy Policy; sender unsubscribe emails already dispatched cannot be retracted.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If a change materially affects your rights or obligations, we will notify users in the app or by email before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Marin County, California, and you and we consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of those courts.
